Paris 2024 Olympic Organizing Committee distributes 300,000 free condoms to athletes

The organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympics have announced that they will be distributing 300,000 free condoms to athletes participating in the games.

This initiative is aimed at promoting safe sex and creating a friendly and comfortable environment for the athletes during the event.

The decision to provide free condoms comes as a departure from the restrictions that were in place during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where athletes were advised to avoid close physical contact, including sexual relations, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

However, with the lifting of these restrictions for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the organizers are taking proactive steps to ensure that athletes have access to necessary resources for safe sexual practices.

Laurent Michaud, the Director of the Olympic Village for Paris 2024, emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout the duration of the Olympic Games.

He stated, "We want to create a friendly environment during the Olympics. Providing free condoms is part of our efforts to promote safe sexual practices and ensure that athletes feel comfortable and supported."

The distribution of condoms at the Olympic Games is not a new practice. Since the 1988 Seoul Olympics, organizers have been providing contraceptives to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.

This initiative has continued at subsequent Olympic Games, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where 150,000 condoms were distributed free of charge.

In addition to the provision of condoms, the organizers have also planned an array of amenities and services to enhance the overall experience for the athletes.

Michaud mentioned that there will be over 350 buffet tables offering a variety of world-class cuisines, ensuring that athletes have a wide selection of food options to enjoy during their stay in Paris.

The Paris 2024 Olympics are expected to be the most expensive Olympic Games to date, with an estimated budget of around 2 billion euros (equivalent to 2.1 billion USD) up to the opening ceremony in July. The event is scheduled to take place from July 26th to August 11th in France.

As preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics continue, athletes from around the world are gearing up to participate in this prestigious sporting event. At present, Vietnam has secured five slots for participation, with athletes competing in cycling, swimming, shooting, and boxing.

The provision of free condoms at the Paris 2024 Olympics reflects a proactive approach by the organizers to prioritize the health and well-being of the athletes.

By promoting safe sexual practices and creating a supportive environment, they aim to ensure that athletes can focus on their sporting performances while feeling comfortable and valued during their time at the Olympic Games.
