Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson had a subdued reaction to the news of her setting a new WNBA record for the most rebounds in a single season.

The standout player surpassed the previous record set by rookie Angel Reese, displaying humility and grace in her response.

Wilson's record-breaking moment came after she snagged seven rebounds in a game, breaking the single-season record of 446 rebounds set by Chicago Sky's rookie Angel Reese. Reese had set the new record on Sept. 1 but suffered a season-ending wrist injury two games later.

Wilson had also previously set the WNBA record for most points in a single season on Sept. 11, further solidifying her status as a dominant force in the league.

During a postgame media session following the Aces' 85-72 victory over the Seattle Storm, Wilson was informed of her record during a video call with reporters.

Unaware of the milestone until then, she downplayed the achievement while Aces coach Becky Hammon and teammate Kelsey Plum playfully teased her.

"Record for what?" Wilson initially responded when informed of her accomplishment. "Rebounds? Oh, um, that’s cool.

I don’t hunt rebounds, you know, so it’s not something that’s always on my mind. But when it comes to just getting the basketball for my team—"

LA Sparks forward Chiney Ogwumike (13) shoots the ball against Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson (22).

Hammon interjected with a playful remark, adding, "She doesn’t hunt rebounds, she just has 13 of them all the time."

Wilson continued to express her perspective, stating, "I mean, I’m 6’4’’ and I’m around the basket, I hope I can grab a couple rebounds for my team. But when it comes to just getting them to get them, I’m not focused on that, I’m focused on putting the ball in the hoop.

… It’s a blessing, this league is tough, so if my name could be in the record books for some sort of way, it’s a blessing. That’s cool."

The two-time MVP's tally now stands at 451 rebounds this season, adding to her remarkable week, which saw her become the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a season during Sunday's victory over the Connecticut Sun.

The Aces, led by Wilson, have been on a roll, securing four straight wins, including two against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. With their recent success, Las Vegas will have a chance to secure the third seed in the WNBA Playoffs with a win over the Dallas Wings and a loss for the Sun on Thursday.

Wilson's humility and team-focused approach have endeared her to fans and fellow players alike. Her remarkable achievements on the court are matched only by her humble and grounded demeanor off the court. As she continues to make history in the WNBA, A'ja Wilson's impact reaches far beyond the record books, inspiring a new generation of athletes and fans alike.
