With less than 20 days until the 2024 Olympics open in Paris, anticipation for the world's biggest sporting event is building.
The NBA's Dream Team 2.0 has gathered in Las Vegas to train ahead of heading to France, where they are heavy favorites to take home the gold medal.
The men's team, featuring superstars LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, and the women's team, led by A'ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi, are both expected to dominate their respective leagues.
While the NBA season ended nearly a month ago with the Boston Celtics winning the championship, the WNBA is approaching its midway point.
The league will take a break on July 17 for the All-Star Game and the Olympics, leaving plenty of questions for the second half of the season, which begins on August 15.
However, there's no doubting the form of two-time MVP A'ja Wilson, 27, who leads the WNBA with a 27-point average per game.
Wilson has recently been seen with Miami Heat player Bam Adebayo, sparking rumors of a potential relationship. Bam, who also represented the U.S. at the Olympics after winning gold at Tokyo 2020, is currently in Las Vegas with the team.
If the rumors are true, their relationship could grow even further in the City of Love, Paris. Both are focused on their Olympic goals, with Wilson starting his campaign against Japan on Monday, July 29, and Adebayo facing Nikola Jokic and Serbia on Sunday, July 28.
If Wilson and Adebayo’s relationship continues to grow, their shared child could inherit their excellent defensive abilities, perhaps even earning a “Coach’s Medal” if they choose to pursue basketball.
The current WNBA champions, led by Wilson, not only lead the league in scoring but also in blocks per game (2.6) and are second in steals (10.9 rpg) behind newcomer Angel Reese (11.8 rpg).
The Aces are coming off a strong playoff run, seeking a third straight championship—a record only matched by the now-defunct Houston Comets from 1997 to 2000.
As the Olympics approach, fans are eagerly awaiting the performances of these elite athletes, both on and off the court. With gold medals at stake, excitement and anticipation surrounding the games are at an all-time high.
